About: |

This is my first track composed with Renoise. It is also a dedication to a good friend who's been having a really hard time in 2006.
We already know that the cruelty of humanity knows no bounds, but it is particular sad when your own parents turn on you by not believing your words when you come to them for help and support by unwillingly sharing the story of the cruelty you have been a victim of. This is what happened to my friend. Basically she's been in hell, and hasn't received any kind of support or help from the ones who should be the most supportive in such a situation.
The reason for this sudden lack of support can be many. Maybe the cruelty in the story is so overwhelming it simply puts the parent in denial. "No, this hasn't happened to my child". Maybe the story tells of an event so unlikely to happen, that it's easier for the parent to loose faith in their child than to accept the truth about reality. But regardless of the reason, I find it very sad when parents don’t believe in what their children say. Family is supposed to be the entity you can always count on, but that's mostly just not the way it is. In my lifetime so far, I have only seen a single family in which the parents always supported their child, and they did this even when it really wasn't fair to other people involved. I used to think that was very stupid of the parents, but today I think that was mostly because my own parents rarely took my side in similar situations. I wish my own parents had done the same for me; always taken my side regardless of the matter (well, except of course if we're talking deep crazy psycho desires to kill the world, but we're not (yet)). It would certainly have given me a less stressful childhood. But it requires a very special kind of person to do that. First of all you should have no fear of conflicts with strangers, and you shouldn't care what strangers think overall. You should be very open minded, and accept that people are different and have different needs and opinions, even/especially your own child. You may not agree with your child too often, but you should be supportive nevertheless. There is no such thing as one single truth. What isn't true for you can easily be true for your child, even though you can't possible imagine how. And you should learn that your child will never interpret nor experience the world like you do, so when he or she says something about whatever, you should take a long time to think before you decide to doubt those words.
Basically "A new direction" is about the misery you will experience when you've been the victim of a cruel crime, resulting in a true hell afterwards where everything gets even worse because of a total absence of support from the parents. When being in that situation one is simply forced to take a new direction in life, in which the precious cosy-family image is left behind. The departure of such an image is sad and melancholic, because you've been fighting a long time to make reality look like that image, but you aren't given any other choice. I do however suspect that the future journey all in all will bring brighter days since you're no longer dragging the burden of all those false hopes such a cosy-family image gives you. It's never fun being forced to face facts, but sometimes it's needed in order to move on. |
